I came over to ubuntustudio from a fedora 3 based system with the
realtime patches etc installed.<br>
(I had tried building systems with 4,5 and 6 but they seemed 'broken'
in the same way gutsy broke a few systems)<br>

Back then, then system was rock solid, but lacked support for wireless
cards etc and I found ubuntustudio very polished and easy to install.<br>
<br>
About two weeks ago I installed fedora 8 and then went to the planet
ccrma site to see how well that system would work on it. I was
impressed, and am considering keeping both systems operational to
compare a little longer.<br>

I guess for me, in a perfect world, ubuntustudio would collaborate with
planet ccrma and come up with a great system.<br>

Unfortunately, my existing ati card (or rather - driver) only allows me
to take advantage of my 2880x900 display when not using compiz-fusion.
If I want the benefits of compiz-fusion, then I am forced to use
2048x768 which is quite a compromise when using ardour or rosegarden
(for me anyway) So shortly I will have to invest in a better graphics
card.<br>

I decided to give it a shot on this system and it is pretty impressive.
It recognized all the peripherals and the video and sound cards right
out of the box.
I connected to my networked HP LaserJet 3600n (I love HP printers) and
so far haven't even had to open a command prompt.
I just have to restore my files from my external USB hard drive and I
should be full speed ahead.

I've actually been pretty impressed with Fedora 8 as well. For obvious
reasons, I have been using RHEL 5 on all my machines at home and at work
since I work with it, but DAMN, Fedora 8 is just sweet.
The new compiz-fusion stuff is hella cool. I posted an ogg video of my
desktop at <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.camerontech.com/compiz-fusion-dual-head.ogg">http://www.camerontech.com/compiz-fusion-dual-head.ogg</a> just
for giggles. I had to make it small so the quality is not too great,
but it's still pretty neat.
